Local Bird Walks & Field Trips
Mecklenburg Audubon offers numerous local bird walks throughout the Charlotte region from September through May. These walks are on local greenways, nature preserves and parks. They usually last from 3-4 hours depending on the bird activity.

In addition to local bird walks, Mecklenburg Audubon sponsors field trips which are longer outings to such locations as Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, Huntington Beach State Park in Murrel's Inlet SC, Congaree National Park, etc. Most of these are full day trips which usually require 1-3 hrs of driving to get to the location. Others are weekend trips. They are free and open to the public.

You must pre-register with the leader to participate in a bird walk or field trip by 6 PM the day before the walk/field trip. The leader will confirm that you are on his/her list. DO NOT assume you are on the list unless you hear from the leader. Please, let the leader know as soon as possible if you are not going to be able to make the walk/trip, as there may be folks on a waiting list.
If you wish to join one of our outings, you will be expected to adhere bird walk etiquette. On occasion, field trips may have to be cancelled (bad weather, etc.) or important details may change (for example, the original meeting spot for a site may have to be changed if there is a trail closure or parking problem). ALWAYS check this site, our local discussion list (Meckbirds), and/or our Facebook group the night before a scheduled field trip for updates.
